FROM A LAWYER IN CRIMINAL LAW TO AN ARTIST

Shadi was actually a lawyer, and she used to work with criminal law in Australia. Today, she lives in the centre of Abu Dhabi with her husband and two children.

When you enter Shadi´s home, you feel the peace. Her house is neat and carefully decorated. The walls have been decorated with her art ranging from textiles to photography and paintings. On the floor is a piece of pre-ordered art ready to be shipped to its new owner.

THE INSPIRATION AND WORK

“My first big love was and still is calligraphy and painting, but I also have an increasing interest in geometrical design and to develop my calligraphy,” she says. “I find beauty and inspiration in many different things. Everything from carpets my grandmother used to make, to blue tinted tiles at our farm. The living colours find their way into my dreams and creations.”

THE BIG QUESTIONS

Shadi asks many of the bigger questions in life: Who are we and what do we do here? The answers are often found in mystical poetry like “Rumi” and “Baha’u’llah”. The titles of her creations are often a reference to this.

“My goal is to create art that through beauty will affect the soul in an uplifting way. Themes like reward, punishment, and social justice are strong representations in my art, and stem from my work as a lawyer.”

ARTIST AND CURATOR

Shadi´s art has been exhibited in Australia and in other cities in the world, like Florence Biennale. Besides being an artist, she is also a curator and has on multiple occasions curated several successful exhibitions.
